Knowledge/skill - the Best You Equipped
Perhaps, today, you are reading this article frustrated because you don’t know the way to make your life work. Maybe you have a dream but you don’t know how to make it a reality. Or you have achieved a desired goal and want to start a new venture. Perhaps, you simply want to fine tune what you already have. The good news is: help is out there. There are plenty of available resources to guide you in your quest – to make the seemingly impossible, a certainty. Of course, you must understand the struggle will probably not be easy. Most likely you won’t change in a flash or get rich and famous overnight. One thing is a given: whatever you choose to do you will need knowhow.
The path to your best dreams realized begins with a choice and determination in your heart. The prerequisites to an effective and productive life include: (a) choosing a path or goal, (b) the will to make it happen, (c) faith that the desired outcome is achievable, and (d) the conviction that the achievement is legitimate and worthwhile. Another requirement is the appropriate knowledge and skills relevant to your pursuit. In order to be truly successful at anything you must be a student of that profession or activity and take the time to acquire the knowledge pertinent to the quest.
Barry Bonds did not simply step up to a 98 mile an hour fastball his first at bat ever and knock it out of the park. He spent countless hours learning how to recognize pitches and swing a bat. Legendary pilot Chuck Yeager did not wake up one morning and say: “I think I’ll jump in my first airplane today and fly it around the world at the speed of sound.” These days it takes a minimum of 3000 flight hours to gain the requisite skill to be a major airline pilot. No matter how sold out you may think you are: if you are not willing to gain the necessary knowledge for your chosen field, you will forever spend your life like Walter Mitty never venturing outside the daydreams of your own mind. Proper knowledge is your best life equipped for maximum impact.
You may ask: where might I find the knowledge I need to realize my dream? Whether your pursuit is a new career, a better marriage or a desired hobby, you can acquire the knowledge you need in a number of ways:
• Trial and error • Search the internet for articles • Read books on the subject • Attend seminars and workshops • Enroll in a specialized school • Hire a mentor or life coach skilled in the subject
You may be thinking: schools and life coaches are expensive, seminars and internet tools are scams to steal my money; and I’ve tried reading books to no avail. These may seem to be legitimate concerns but I must ask: did you read the whole book and really attempt to follow the instructions given? Did you pay attention at the seminar and give your best college try at making the information work for you? Sadly, most people don’t.
Admittedly I once thought like this. I would buy books about this or that but refused to do the work necessary to have a fair opinion about whether the product or method worked or not. Just six weeks ago, I even bought and returned the Home Cash Course thinking the information was bogus and I would never make a dime for all my effort. Before I returned the product, I took a couple hours to access one of the attached resources with a less than inspiring title B.U.M. Marketing. Listening to his advice I signed up to write articles with EzineArticles.com through which I am now enjoying the opportunity to do something I love – write. After only four weeks of submitting articles, my sixth article was picked up and published on another site and achieved third and fourth position on Google. As limited as my success has been young Ephren read a book on how to design video games and is now a multi-millionaire.
At age 25 Ephren Taylor II is the youngest African American CEO of a publicly traded company in the country. Although he has attained this position at a relatively young age, Taylor is not without experience as a business developer or head of a company. At age twelve, the young entrepreneur from Kansas City programmed, developed and marketed his first 3D video game which he sold for $10. At 16, Taylor launched GoFerretGo.com an internet site designed to help teenagers find jobs. Today, along with being the head of City Capital Corporations, this self-made millionaire owns three other companies and manages over $100 million in assets.
Perhaps you might ask: what drove this kid to get started in business at such a young age? The answer is like many of his friends Ephren liked playing video games. However, since most games cost $50 his parents did not have the means to buy him one. As necessity is the mother of all invention, the young Taylor made his own. You might be wondering: well, how did he learn to make video games? When on the Montel Williams show in December 2007, the young tycoon was asked that very question and answered “I read a book.” His parents gave him $50 and instead of spending it on one measly game he bought a book on programming, read it cover to cover and followed the instructions inside. By merely reading a book and following its ideas Ephren Taylor II was catapulted to a life beyond compare.
Knowledge is your best life equipped and like Ephren you can achieve your dreams by learning all you can about your field and putting that knowledge to work for you.
